Subsurface exploration

Soil borings and test pits.

Single-family lots through skyrise, bridges, and developments. Samples come back to the same job. The log is classified at the hole.

What a boring or test-pit program is for

Foundations, earthwork, pavements, bridges, and developments need classified soil. We explore for homeowners through skyrise and public work. Soil borings and test pits retrieve samples, give a graphic log, and feed the laboratory and the geotechnical report.

Minnesota sites are glacial. Till, lake clay, peat, and fill show up on ordinary jobs. The boring or pit is how we tell which one you have, and at what depth.

  • Soil borings — residential through skyrise
  • Test pits
  • Bridge and development explorations
  • Sample retrieval for laboratory tests
  • Classification at the hole
  • Geotechnical data for the report

Homeowners & builders

Single-family drilling and exploration.

Home lots, additions, and small residential foundations still call us for soil borings and test pits. Tell us the city, access, and what you are building. We size the program to the lot — not a catalog count.

Contractors & public

Corridor, bridge, and development programs.

Send the site address, access notes, and the structure. Utility locates belong on the calendar before the rig. We say how many holes or pits and how deep — then feed the lab and the geotechnical report from the same office.

Photographs on this page are illustrative of typical boring and sampling work. They are not a named GeoServices job.
