Minnesota Building Code

Special inspections under IBC Chapter 17.

We perform the special inspections the building code and the Statement of Special Inspections require — steel, concrete, masonry, soils, deep foundations, fire-resistant materials, and related work. We observe and document pile, pier, and helical installations as they go in the ground. Major contractors and municipal, county, state, and federal projects first.

Building-code special inspections

Under the Minnesota Building Code (International Building Code Chapter 17 as adopted), special inspections cover work that must be verified as it is placed. That includes watching pile, pier, and helical crews install to the approved documents — and documenting what went in the ground. The design professional identifies what is required; the building official approves the special inspectors. We document what was built against the approved documents.

We prioritize this work for major contractors and public owners — municipal, county, state, and federal. Structural observation and construction review stay with the same Apple Valley practice when we are already on the geotechnical or CMT job.

Same firm as the report

When we wrote the geotechnical recommendations or are already testing materials on site, special inspections and construction review belong on that same job. Send the approved documents, the Statement of Special Inspections, and the schedule.
